SUN TAI JI QUAN

 SUN TAI JI QUAN

History: Sun style Taijiquan was created by Sun Lutang (1860-1930), a native of Wanxian, Heibei, who studied with the top internal masters of his time. His Taiji teacher was Hao Wei Zheng of the Wu (Hao) style, his Xingyi masters were Li Kaiyuan and Guo Yunshen, and his Bagua master was Chen Tinghua, disciple of modern Bagua founder Dong Haichuan.

Sun Lutang integrated Taiji, Xingyi and Bagua to develop Sun style Taijiquan, a style that focuses strongly on internal power. He was an expert in Bagua theories on the I Ching, the ancient Chinese system of divination, which he in fact used to predict his own time of death. He also studied the Five elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth inherent in Xingyi, as well as the duality of taiji's Yin-Yang concepts. Sun Lutang fused together the powerful concepts of taiji, Bagua and Xingyi, along with their martial theories, to create his new style.
